A Home

To be honest, I’ve never truly felt HOME. I was born in Atlanta to a warm yet chaotic household of ten. And if we’re really getting into – I moved to Pittsburgh at a young age, then did a little stint in Warren (small town in Ohio), then moved to Detroit, and now find myself in the Bay Area. Don’t tell the rest but… Bay Area is by far my favorite.

But what is “home”?

I guess in my 29 years of being me, I’ve been comfortable with the idea that “home” isn’t necessarily a physical place. Home is where you find yourself being yourself. It’s where the normal chaos of the world melts into infinity, and the one singularity that’s left is unconditional self-love.

I’m a photographer, musician, outdoor-enthusiast, father to Bubbles the pug, and seeker of anything fun. Those are all home to me.

And that reminds me – perhaps I should introduce myself before I continue to wax poetic.

Hi, I’m Alex. I’m a Bay Area based artist that wants to make a big impact on the world by showing others their unfiltered beauty and self-value. That was a big sentence. In short — I love helping people show off how badass they really are.

I got my first DSLR in 2019. A Canon Rebel T5i.

Yeah.

I thought I was so cool.

The dream-like landscapes I encountered during my hiking adventures were but fleeting memories on my phone. Lost among thousands of other photos, and never to be looked at again. That wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to preserve the emotions, colors, and shapes of what I saw. Those special moments deserved to be photographed in great quality, printed, and marveled at over and over.

Fast-forward to 2023 – I still love landscape photography, and have gone through a wide array of DSLRs and film cameras. But I’ve now delved into other avenues of photography – fine-art, street, portrait. All are fantastic, yet portrait photography in particular finds itself in the forefront of my aspirations. With portrait photography I’m able to help others.

Art is healing. At its core, it’s an expression of the inner self. So creating art is therapy for the soul. Seeing yourself and celebrating yourself as art is the first step towards cultivating unconditional self-value. That’s why I love collaborating with those who are ready to be seen, and creating worthy portraits for and with them. In the process of creating portraits, my hope is that people feel more proud of who they are, and realize their inherent badassery.

(WOAH. Did he just find a way to combine his “home” and goal???)

Yes. Yes I did. And I’m damned proud of it.

So if there’s one closing thought I have on this blog, it’s this –

Don’t care for others’ opinions. Don’t get lost in the pits of anxiety worrying that you can’t seem to find yourself in the commotion of life.

YOU ARE BADASS.

So show it to the world and be proud of who you are! Let’s celebrate you for being genuinely you.

-Alex
